In 2019 Milan started the first call for professional residencies in the UNESCO Creative Cities of Literature: a commitment aimed at supporting the young professional talents from the book world which is among the objectives identified by the City in defining its candidacy for the network. Milan has oriented itself from the beginning on a proposal of residencies different from those existing in the other Creative Cities of Literature, generally designed for writers or translators, both in terms of the type of training and the duration and commitment expected of the participants.

Specifically, the activity "Cultural spaces for urban development based on creativity", included in the application dossier, provided for the promotion of exchanges with professionals from the European and international publishing industry to support the creation of new literary and editorial projects, through the organization of residencies aimed at operators in the book supply chain. With this project we want to realize this objective guiding guests on a journey of understanding the cultural and productive fabric of the city and at the same time opening up to international experiences that they will be able to share with everyone.
