#17Booksfor17SDGs

The 17 Sustainable Development Goals (Sustainable Development Goals, SDGs) are included in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, a program signed in September 2015 by the governments of the 193 member countries of the UN, and represent common objectives on a set of important issues for development that the adhering countries are committed to achieving by 2030. They constitute an action plan that aims to adopt sustainable development practices to end poverty and hunger, promote economic growth, and simultaneously address climate change and preserve landscapes.

Since December 2019, the UNESCO Creative City of Literature in Iowa City has launched the annual #17Booksfor17SDGs social campaign. Every day the Cities of Literature participating in the initiative publish reading suggestions for texts from their cities and towns on social media, using the hashtag #17Booksfor17SDGs. These can be essays that specifically address that day's SDG, or works of fiction that in some way relate to the same theme.

To discover all the reading suggestions from the UNESCO Creative Cities of Literature, simply search for the hashtag #17booksfor17SDGs on Twitter and Facebook.
