The Creative Cities Network

In 2017, Milan was designated a UNESCO Creative City of Literature, becoming part of the international network created in 2004 with the aim of promoting cooperation between cities that have identified creativity as a strategic factor for sustainable urban development.

The 295 cities that currently make up this network are committed to sharing best practices, developing partnerships that promote creativity and cultural industries, strengthening participation in cultural life and integrating culture into urban development plans.

In particular, the activity of Creative Cities is aimed at disseminating cultural activities, goods and services, expanding opportunities for creators and professionals in the cultural sector and improving access and participation in cultural life for all, with a view to maximum social inclusion.

Le Creative Cities of the UNESCO network are committed to the pursuit of excellence at a local level, as well as working together to create lasting global partnerships and cross-cultural initiatives, as well as developing local, national and international professional links. The network includes seven creative fields:

· Crafts and folk arts
