Twinnings

The Municipality of Milan began its twinning activity in 1961 by signing its first Agreement with the city of San Paolo.
Since then, fourteen other agreements have been signed, the most recent of which with the South Korean city of Daegu.
The twin cities belong to the five continents.

Twinning is a tool that serves to better define friendship relationships and exchanges between cities of different nations linked by significant affinities: an always open channel to encourage joint activities and develop close political, economic and cultural relationships.
Twinnings have a permanent duration.

With the Twinning institute, cooperation between cities, the strengthening of ties between peoples, the maintenance of relationships with Italian communities abroad and foreign communities in Milan, the promotion of local integration and the facilitation of exchange of experiences and strategies aimed at solving social, economic and environmental problems, with the aim of improving the quality of life and well-being of the respective citizens.

The agreements concern the sectors of public administration, economy, science, technology, innovation, culture, education, trade, tourism, mobility, energy and the environment.
