Tel Aviv

Twinned with Milan since 16 October 1997
Mayor: Ron Huldai
Population: 450.000 inhabitants

The city, whose name means "Hill of Spring", is formed by the merger of two centers located on the Mediterranean coast, south of the mouth of the Yarkon.

Tel Aviv was born, in fact, in 1909 as a Jewish suburb of the Arab city of Jaffa and developed rapidly with the influx of Jewish immigrants from Europe.

It separated administratively from Jaffa in 1923 (then absorbed it in 1948) and for some time performed the functions of the capital of the State of Israel.

Today it is the capital of the district of the same name, and constitutes the largest economic and financial center of the country thanks to agriculture and the presence of various industrial sectors: textile, mechanical, chemical, publishing, graphics. It is also recognized as one of the leading urban hubs for start-ups, a role that has made it the hub of Israeli innovation. The city is home to an international airport.

Characterized by similar democratic ideals, Milan and Tel Aviv aspire to improve their living conditions and civil growth.

For this reason, the two municipal administrations decided to stipulate a Twinning Agreement which is the expression of a strong will and a loyal aspiration to support the spirit of peace and brotherhood among all citizens of the world.

The aim of this Twinning is to develop, in addition to the relationships between the two cities, also collaboration in the urban planning, economic-commercial, cultural, academic, tourism and sports sectors.

The Twinning Agreement was ratified on 16 October 1997.

The city of Tel Aviv collaborates with the city of Milan within the MUFPP – Milan Urban Food Policy Pact and the C40 – Cities Climate Leadership Group network.
