Frankfurt am Main, located in the Land of Hesse, on both banks of the Main, is the commercial capital of Germany.

Located in the center of Europe and at the crossroads of important railway, road, air (two airports) and river communication routes, Frankfurt am Main is a major commercial and industrial engine (mechanical, chemical, pharmaceutical, textile and publishing industries) and home to some of the most powerful financial institutions in the country: this trade fair city with great traditions has become the banking and stock exchange heart of our continent in recent decades.

Marked by internationality and cosmopolitanism, where over one hundred nationalities peacefully coexist in a small area, the city nevertheless has a strong sense of tradition, art and culture.

With just one glance from one of the main bridges you can understand both the civic splendor of Römerberg and the imposing skyline of modern multi-storey architecture.

Birthplace of Goethe, it is home to a famous university, various scientific and cultural institutes and museums.

Milan is linked by notable affinities with Frankfurt am Main, both cities being traditionally characterized by a common impulse towards economic and social progress.

The most recent history is marked by the analogy of the constructive efforts after the Second World War: their spirit and their qualities of initiative and creativity ensured that both became centers of European and global attraction through numerous fairs, exhibitions and conferences.

As part of the Twinning relations - ratified on 21 October 1969 - the Municipality of Milan and the Municipality of Frankfurt am Main organize annual cultural exchanges between citizens and students.

Every year the Presidency of the Municipal Council organizes a Palazzo Marino an Italian language course for the citizens of Frankfurt am Main and prepares a detailed program with the aim of making guests aware of the cultural and socio-economic aspects of Milan.
In the summer period, Milanese citizens are welcomed by the Municipality of Frankfurt am Main and, in collaboration with the Volkshochschule, follow a specific cultural program and attend a German course lasting two weeks.

For secondary school students, the Municipality of Milan and the Municipality of Frankfurt am Main organize German language courses, in collaboration with the Volkshochschule, and a specific cultural program.

The city of Frankfurt am Main collaborates with the city of Milan within the EUROCITIES and MUFPP – Milan Urban Food Policy Pact networks.
