Transfer the body abroad

Authorizations to transfer the body to another municipality are issued:

  • in the event of death from the municipality in which the death occurred;
  • for bodies already buried by the Municipality in which they are located, with the release of:
  1. mortuary passport: if the deceased person is headed to one of the countries adhering to the Berlin Convention of 10/02/1937 (Austria, Belgium, Chile, Egypt, France, Germany, Mexico, Portugal, Czech Republic, Democratic Republic of the Congo (formerly Zaire), Romania, Slovakia, Switzerland and Turkey);
  2. decree authorizing transport abroad, for all other countries.

Request

For the release of mortuary passport It presents:

  • request with revenue stamp of €16,00
    - it must be presented directly by a relative of the deceased person, or by an authorized funeral company;
    - if the company presents it, the application must be accompanied by a proxy signed by a relative of the deceased person and a copy of the identity document of the delegating person;
  • tax collection report, issued by the ATS – Mortuary Police Service, via Statuto 5, Milan;
  • revenue stamp of €16,00 to be applied on the mortuary passport.

For the release of Transport authorization decree abroad It presents:

  • all the documentation listed previously;
  • authorization for entry of the body issued by the Consulate or Embassy of the State to which it is headed.

Additional documentation in particular cases:

  • if requested by the destination State
    - international death certificate drawn up in multiple languages ​​issued by the Municipality Registry Office;
  • if the Judicial Authority was involved
    - valid authorization for expatriation, to be requested from: Milan Prosecutor's Office – entry from via Manara – Milan.

Hours (show up at least 30 minutes before the office closes):

  • from Monday to Friday, from 8 to 30 for all services;
  • Saturdays and midweek holidays from 8 to 30 for all services (entrance from Via Rastrelli);
  • Sunday from 8 to 30 for deaths in homes and deaths in nursing homes without a mortuary (entrance from Via Rastrelli).
