Cascina Corte San Giacomo

What do you find in the farmhouse

A visit to the famous Abbey of Chiaravalle is an opportunity to also discover the Cascina Corte San Giacomo, in the nearby district of Nosedo, which has hosted the Nocetum Onlus Association since 1998 which deals with educational-educational activities and hospitality in the social sphere.

In 1200, the ancient medieval village of Nocetum became a grangia (ancient farm) of the nearby Cistercian monastery of Chiaravalle where, with the cultivation of irrigated meadows, large quantities of fodder were produced, an important source of income for the monastery because it was so much requested by the city market . The rural past is recalled by the Cascina city farm which houses farmyard animals, hives for the production of honey, a vegetable garden, an orchard and an area dedicated to educational courses for schools and groups.

The heart of the whole complex is the small church of SS. Philip and James. Historical research has highlighted its very ancient origins, confirmed by the discovery of archaeological finds under the floor and 14th century Lombard school frescoes visible in the apse.

The shop pays particular attention to sustainability and solidarity: it sells 0 km products, coming from the fair trade market and from the national circuit of abbeys, in which faith, tradition and work find a skilful implementation in the care of the land and its fruits.

The Cascina is also easily reachable thanks to a cycle/pedestrian path that connects Corso Lodi - therefore the center of Milan - to the Chiaravalle Abbey and its village.

The name Nosedo probably dates back to the time when there were many walnut trees in the area.
