Cascina Ronchetto delle Rane

What do you find in the farmhouse

Entrance is free and free. Cultural initiatives and visits for school groups are held upon request.

We are inside the South Park and the routes are ideal for walking in the open air, on foot and by bicycle.

Worth visiting nearby is the church of Saints Peter and Paul, dating back to the 15th century, which in the chapel known as "of the Madonna del Latte" houses a cycle of frescoes on the life of the first Pope and in the counter-façade houses a recently restored 18th century organ: it is the oldest preserved in Milan.

This farmhouse from the Lombard court is the best preserved part of the ancient Tre Ronchetti village (the other two hamlets that made it up were Cascina Ronchettino and Ronchettone).

Small and graceful, almost unchanged for five centuries, Ronchetto delle Rane leaves the visitor with a unique memory. The gaze is lost among vast plowed fields, whose ditches were once crowded with the small amphibians that give this place its name. Inside, the ancient buildings give the impression of being in the rural outskirts of eighteenth-century Milan: a partly dirt courtyard, a small church, the patronal residence with porticoes and topped by a watchtower.

The agricultural company located here produces fodder and manages a breeding of beef cattle. It uses the Tre Ronchetti farmhouse, which is located right opposite, for production purposes.

Also in this case, as in other segments of the Milanese green belt, the population and transformation of the territory probably began due to the barbarian invasions. In these marshy areas many Milanese found refuge from persecution and began to dedicate themselves to agriculture to survive. In a short time, reclamation began and the marshes were converted into cultivable fields with a good yield.

Often, in recent times, the city has advanced up to the walls of the ancient farmhouses that dotted the ancient rural landscape. New housing complexes have been built in the hamlet or locality of Ronchetto Delle Rane and seven hundred and forty inhabitants now reside there.
