Cascina Gaggioli cultivates and produces following the principles of certified organic agriculture, respecting the environment and the consumer.

The farmhouse has the typical square courtyard structure, where homes and service buildings overlook the farmyard. The system in its current form dates back to around the mid-800th century, as evidenced by the dates engraved on some granite artefacts which constituted the water intakes for the numerous water meadows. However, the agricultural vocation of the area is older. Already in the 200s the Selvanesco area was cultivated and inhabited. The lands were then owned by the Torriani, lords of Milan, who to make cultivation profitable had the Ticinello canal built, still used today for this purpose.

The property extends over an area of approximately 60 hectares immersed in the Southern Milan Agricultural Park. Rice and cereals are grown there and Limousine cattle are raised. The ancient stable has been renovated and transformed into a hospitality structure.

The fountains are natural springs which, coming from the underground aquifer, maintain a constant water temperature (10/14°C) in every season of the year. This phenomenon, typical of the area south of Milan, was the basis for the development of a very profitable agriculture: the marcita. The meadows, covered by a thin film of water for almost the whole year and in continuous vegetation, are able to produce up to nine cuts of forage.

The adoption of this agricultural system is due to the Cistercian monks who, as early as the 12th century, contributed to transforming a vast marshy area into extremely fertile land.
