Cemeteries: access by private vehicles, how it works

Can enter freely in municipal cemeteries:

  • bicycles;
  • vehicles of disabled citizens/citizens already in possession of the parking permit in the municipal area displayed on the windshield. The person holding the permit must be on board the vehicle, possibly accompanied by the person driving the vehicle and their relatives.

They can ask forauthorization upon login:

  • vehicles of disabled citizens without the municipal permit;
  • vehicles transporting people with walking difficulties;
  • the voluntary people authorized by the Animal Protection Office of the Municipality of Milan who take care of the cat colonies regularly registered in the cemeteries.

For all other private vehicles entry is prohibited.

Bicycles:

  • they can access during opening hours to the public;
  • are susceptible to limitations in the presence of alterations to the pavement or work sites or impediments of various kinds which do not guarantee traffic safety.

Motorized wheelchairs for people with disabilities:

  • they can access without time limits, except when they are closed to the public.

Authorized private vehicles:   

  • access is permitted from 9:00 to 12:00 on all cemeteries opening days;
  • the person holding the permit must be on board the vehicle, possibly accompanied by the person driving the vehicle and their relatives;
  • the validity of the permit is permanent for people over seventy, biennial in all other cases.

Any limitations on vehicle access may be decided in the event of adverse weather conditions or for contingent or exceptional reasons.

  • The highway code and complementary laws apply within the cemeteries;
  • all permitted vehicles must travel at very low speed;
  • Parking of vehicles on pavements, cobbled areas and grassy surfaces is prohibited.
