Nursery schools and Spring Sections: what they are and how they work

The nursery is an educational service, offered to girls and boys from 3 months to 3 years of age, which contributes with families to the care, education and socialization and well-being of girls and boys, in an environment careful and safe.

The nursery is a place where the little girl and boy play, explore, think and develop talents and aptitudes. Based on the number of girls and boys enrolled, each nursery is divided into two sections: the "little sections", which welcome girls and boys from 3 to 12 months; the "medium/large sections", which welcome girls and boys from 12 to 36 months.

The Spring sections, open to the attendance of girls and boys from 24 to 36 months of age, combine nursery care with the educational objectives and tools typical of nursery school; they can accommodate up to a maximum of 20 girls and boys, for whom there is a nursery teacher and two nursery school teachers.

All educational activities are planned and carried out in accordance with both the average skills expected for each age group and with the current pedagogical guidelines.

The day at the nursery is organized according to routine important, which are accompanied by educational proposals and play times: the welcome in the morning, the moments of personal care and hygiene, lunch, the moment of rest.

The organization of time in activities repeated every day helps girls and boys to recognize and make the organization of the day their own, to gradually develop security and emotional stability in relationships with peers and educators.

To learn about the surrounding world, internalize concepts and find communication strategies, boys and girls need to have concrete experiences; this happens above all through play, an activity in which children progressively expand their ability to manipulate objects, build, imitate, make hypotheses and make small or large changes to the sequences of a game. For these reasons, educators design and set up spaces and activities in line with the needs of children and their needs for growth and autonomy.

Educators accompany girls and boys on their growth paths from nursery to nursery school, seeking and promoting continuity and educational coherence between different educational experiences.

Continuity means educating about passage and transitions, promoting curiosity and willingness to change, teaching girls and boys to constantly reorganize their resources and to welcome the opportunities for growth that different life contexts offer.

Welcoming a girl or boy with a disability or in a fragile condition means making a commitment to her parents and to the community. Thanks also to the contribution of educational support staff, educators and parents collaborate in the drafting of the PEI - Individualized Educational Project, with the aim of identifying treatment paths and targeted educational activities that promote the integration and growth of girls and boys.

To enhance and best finalize every educational action, the school also actively collaborates with the local area, social services and socio-health services.

The Summer Sections of the Nursery Schools and Spring Sections are a service offered in the month of July to girls and boys who attend municipal nursery schools and spring sections, municipal nursery schools under contract and accredited private ones.

The objective of the service is to offer families an educational and recreational project even in the summer month, to help families reconcile life and work times during school closures.

Creative recreational activities, group games and physical activities, painting and theater workshops are offered, in line with the skills and abilities expected for that age group.

The Early Childhood Centers welcome girls and boys, from 3 months to 3 years of age, who do not attend a nursery school, a municipal Spring Section, a municipal contracted one, a private or private partner, for a maximum of 4 hours in the morning.

Early Childhood Centers are a space where every girl and boy, supported by educational staff, can:

  •  develop the first important relationships with both adults and peers
  • explore and experiment with dedicated educational spaces, materials and contexts
  • develop their potential and skills and take the first steps towards autonomy.
