Andrea Verga Fund

The archive of Andrea Verga (1811 – 1895), one of the founding fathers of Italian psychiatry, is a substantial documentary complex made up of the psychiatrist's papers, relating both to his professional activity and his private life.

Verga's correspondents include A. Bertani, C. Golgi, C. Livi, C. Lombroso, P. Mantegazza, C. Cantù, G. Carcano, C. Correnti, A. Maffei, T. Massarani.

The archive also preserves over a hundred medical records and some psychiatric reports relating to cases of mental alienation followed by Verga himself.

A group of papers can be referred to his nephew Giovanni Battista Verga, psychiatrist and director of the Mombello mental hospital.

The reorganization, inventory and digitalization intervention was carried out by Aspi Center-University of Milan Bicocca.
