On the occasion of the 220th anniversary of the establishment of the First Italian Republic (1802-1805), starting from December 2022 the Civic Historical Collections will organize the exhibition focus "From the Phrygian Cap to the Royal Eagle" at the Risorgimento Museum, presenting in rotation some recently restored flags, a nucleus of precious textile artefacts that tell the story of the Napoleonic period, fundamental to the history of our country, reinterpreted through symbols, uniforms and banners.

From Tuesday 23 January 2024, along the halls of the Risorgimento Museum, after having proposed the Standard of the Horse Grenadier Squadron of the Guard of the President of the Italian Republic, which served as a model during the presidency of Carlo Azeglio Ciampi as the basis for the creation of the identifying standard the President of the Italian Republic, the project to valorise the Napoleonic banners continues with the Standard of the Royal Gendarmerie of the First Legion of Milan, First Squadron, Company of Olona, a precious heirloom enriched with silk thread embroidery and colored glass paste stones that adorn the iron crown, one of the diadems that Napoleon used for his coronation as king of Italy in the Cathedral on 26 May 1805.

We therefore invite you on a journey among flags, banners, uniforms, objects and works of art, often little known, to discover the Milan of the time; a small dedicated publication will accompany you on this journey with which you can immerse yourself in history and art.
