Welfare. The Municipality is the leader of the project against human trafficking

Milan, August 6 2022 - The Municipality of Milan renews its commitment to combating human trafficking. Through the approval of a resolution, the Council has, in fact, decided to join the tender launched by the Equal Opportunities Department of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers for the financing of projects implemented at a territorial level with the aim of intercepting, supporting and welcoming people victims of trafficking. 
The project proposal 'Derives and Landings 2022: areas of freedom and rights for victims of trafficking and exploitation' will be implemented in the areas of the Metropolitan city of Milan and the provinces of Monza Brianza, Sondrio, Como and Varese.  

The project first plans to work to intercept potential victims through the use of mobile units that monitor the area and listening desks through which it is possible to establish initial contact and provide orientation on the services available and the procedures to follow. 24/XNUMX telephone availability is also guaranteed for connection with the national anti-trafficking toll-free number and protection through emergency response structures. The first and second reception in protected accommodation are then the basis of individualized integration and re-inclusion paths which aim to build or rebuild the person's autonomy through educational interventions, psychological support and aimed at finding a home and work. 

If the project - which will last 17 months, starting from October 2022 - is deemed suitable, it will obtain financing of approximately 2,3 million euros to which will be added 510 thousand euros made available by the Administration. 

The Municipality of Milan, as the project leader, has initiated, through the publication of public notices, the procedures for identifying implementing partners through the collection of expressions of interest. 
'Derive e Approdi' has existed since 2017 and has achieved important results in recent years: in the second half of 2021 alone, over 2500 contacts were activated, of which around 1500 through trips to the area, and around a hundred people welcomed into the facilities of the project.
