Calendar from 13 to 17 February 2017

Council Commission Equal opportunities and civil rights (Chaired by Councilor De Marchi Diana Alessandra)
Agenda: Violence and mistreatment of women over 70.

OUTCOME: The speakers explain the problem under consideration by highlighting that the mistreatment of those over 70, mainly women, is not only of a physical nature, but above all psychological and economic. They occur mainly in the family environment, by children, grandchildren and relatives, especially cohabitants. These are serious and widespread episodes that have little visibility and about which it is necessary to raise awareness among health and social workers and general practitioners in order to help the elderly to deal with them and, possibly, report them.
A debate follows during which the Commissioners propose some operational hypotheses to address this social criticality.
The rapporteurs thank those present for their collaboration in offering food for thought and in resolving the issue under consideration, on which they agree and which they will investigate further in the competent forums.
