Playgrounds for everyone

Milan (city, south-west area, south-east area, Martesana area) - Inclusive gaming: a right for everyone.

"Playgrounds for all" is a project that has identified the needs of children and disabilities, in particular the right to play for all, as a priority of general interest.
Playgrounds are little frequented by children with disabilities, because there are often no games suited to their needs, because they are unable to participate in the game together with other children.

The intervention, carried out by the Milan Community Foundation (see Subject Linking), with the patronage of the Municipality of Milan, sees the creation of areas equipped with rides and games accessible in each of the 9 Milanese municipalities, with a dual purpose:

  1. allow all children to share the experience of playing,
  2. raise awareness among children and adults so that they develop a respectful and attentive attitude towards those who are different from themselves.

For the realization of the project, a working group was set up, in which various associations participate (ANFFAS, L'Abilità, Lehda, Inter Campus, UICI, UILDM): an important contribution, not only to identify the structures that can best respond to the needs of fragile children, but also for support in the development of the educational project that accompanies the structural intervention.
The initiative is the tangible sign of the role and commitment towards the community, which is expressed through collaboration between public and private actors, the search for the resources necessary to integrate public action and the direct participation of citizens.
The experience is a positive model of collaboration that could become a laboratory of citizenship to be replicated.
