Plane tree VTA 9595

A “Siamese” tree. This is, in reality, the Platano VTA 9595 of Villa Litta: two trees that have intertwined their respective crowns and fused the roots and part of the trunks.

In addition to its size, diameter and height (which reaches 34 metres), the tree owes its monumentality to its appearance and its ability to host a significant variety of birds: colonies of parrots find shelter in its cavities and of starlings; in the foliage a nest of crows; and the large cavity on the northern trunk, until a few years ago, housed a rare Lapland tawny owl. It is an important "station" of urban biodiversity, which deserves every care and protection.

The tree is at the end of its biological cycle and the internal degradation of the trunk is highlighted by the holes made by the woodpeckers in search of the larvae of the insects they feed on. Its stability conditions also worsened and it was necessary to replace the large anchor cables that bind the two trunks.
