Plane tree VTA 9561

Like the "Siamese" plane tree of Villa Litta, this plant was also originally made up of two large trunks, one of which, the western one, suffered a breakage following a disastrous wind storm.

Even though mutilated, the tree has retained its grandeur, thanks to its 32 meters of height and the 228 centimeters of trunk diameter. As with the "Siamese" tree (the VTA 9595 Sycamore), the cavities of the VTA 9561 Sycamore of Villa Litta are also colonized by starlings and parrots; Furthermore, for this plant too, it was necessary to increase the anchoring cables that bind the branches.

A fence was created at the base of the tree to avoid soil compaction and preserve the surface roots that branch out in search of water and nutrients.

Of the twin tree which no longer exists today, a washer remained (still visible in the Wedding Hall of Villa Litta), which made it possible to trace the age of the plant: it dates back to 1773 and is therefore 249 years old.
