The Bald Cypress of the Montanelli Gardens was one of the first trees of its species to be planted in Milan.

Native to the United States of America, where it lives in the swamps of Florida, it is one of the very few conifers that loses its leaves during the winter months, which is why it has earned the nickname "Bald Cypress". In autumn, the foliage preparing to lose its leaves offers one of nature's most evocative spectacles, right in the heart of the city.

A peculiar characteristic of this species lies in its roots, called "pneumatophores", which allow the survival of the plant even if completely immersed in water.

The taxodium of the Montanelli Gardens can reach a height of 30 meters and the diameter of the trunk is close to 210 centimetres.
