Stables de Montel

Expected program
Restoration of existing buildings, aimed at recovering the historical memory of the site (restricted area). Development of qualified public services, which create synergies with existing green spaces, entertainment and sports facilities, also integrated with private functions.

Participation in the program
4 expressions of interest, 2 finalists, 1 final proposal.

Winning project
Recovery of the historic building, water, urban greenery, sustainability, relationship and interaction with the community are the founding elements of the "Teatro delle Terme" project which will bring the historic de Montel stables in San Siro to new life.
The project combines the desire to preserve the historic buildings of the stables with the potential offered by the presence of thermal waters underground. The entrance to the new spa in Milan will be located on via Achille, which will be accessed through a green area for public use (forecourt).
The building, originally developed on two floors, is redeveloped and restored. On the ground floor there will be relaxation pools with thermal water coming from the existing well on the site. The second floor of the building will instead host classrooms and meeting rooms, made available to neighborhood associations for debates and conferences. In terms of soft mobility, new bike sharing stations are planned.

Progress of implementation
Building permit for the implementation of the intervention issued in December 2021.

With resolution no. 1983 of 10.11.2017, the Municipal Council approved participation in the first edition of the program by putting up a tender for their sale of the sites in via Serio ("Serio"), viale Doria ("Doria"), via Fetonte ("Scuderie de Montel”) and viale Monza n. 148 (“Gorla Market”). The procedure concluded with the awarding of the Serio, Doria and Scuderie de Montel sites. Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane SpA (FS) and FS Sistemi Urbani SRL (FSSU) also joined the tender with the former Greco Breda railway yard (“Scalo Greco Breda”).
