Urban planning. Santa Giulia, variant documents online, approval closer

The environmental report and the variant have been published. Maran: “PalaItalia, schools, greenery and light rail, close to an important milestone for the future of the neighborhood and for Milan-Cortina 2026”

Milan, May 11 2020 - A new fundamental step towards the approval of the Santa Giulia variant, which will allow, in addition to the completion of the district, the construction of the PalaItalia, a key structure of Milan-Cortina 2026.

The documents relating to the environmental report and the variant to the Rogoredo Montecity Integrated Intervention Plan have been published on the website of the Municipality of Milan and the Lombardy Region.

“The delicate phase we are going through has not prevented the offices of the Municipality of Milan from continuing to work seriously to carry out important projects for the future of the city - declares the councilor for Urban Planning Pierfrancesco Maran -. The publication of these documents allows us to continue towards the expected goal, the approval of the variant. A transition that will start a new phase for the Santa Giulia neighborhood, finally healing a wound and bringing important services: a large public park, schools and light rail, in addition to the PalaItalia. We remind you that the structure would have been built regardless of the assignment of the Games, but the 2026 objective gives us certainty that it will be built quickly."

The publication of the documents, which will be followed by a 60-day period open to comments, therefore represents a fundamental step towards the approval of the variant itself which provides for the planivolumetric reorganization of the area with a remodulation of services for the neighbourhood, starting from the construction of the PalaItalia. Risanamento S.p.A., the real estate group responsible for the entire urban planning project through Milano Santa Giulia S.p.A. (together with Esselunga), already has an agreement with a leading international operator for the construction and management of the 16-seat structure which will host ice hockey competitions in 2026. The variant also provides for the construction of an equipped park of approximately 362.000 m2, new schools of all levels and the light rail connection between the Rogoredo station and the M4 Forlanini stop.

Notice of making available - as part of the Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) procedure - the environmental report and the non-technical summary with simultaneous filing and publication of the documents concerning the proposed variation to the Integrated Intervention Plan (PII)
