Milan, March 30 2022 – The demolition and reconstruction works on the buildings in Via dei Giaggioli 7, 9 and 11 will start at the end of the year thanks to European funds allocated through the National Innovative Program for the Quality of Living (PINQUA).

There are 175 accommodations that will be built in total thanks to the construction sites that will allow the buildings to be adapted to current seismic and plant engineering regulations. In particular, 126 two-room apartments of 38 square meters, 31 three-room apartments of 58 square meters and another 18 three-room apartments of 75 square meters will be built. The new houses will all be equipped with balconies while the fences that currently separate the condominiums will be eliminated to give continuity to the public space.

The total expected duration of the works is approximately one thousand days, the cost is estimated at 48 million euros, the final deadline for the delivery of the buildings is March 31, 2026.

The Municipality of Milan and MM are working to offer tenants who will have to move, for the period of the works, alternative accommodation in the area or in the immediately adjacent neighbourhoods. Individual interviews have begun in recent weeks to assess the needs of individual families in order to choose the most suitable alternative housing solution.

The works will affect the entire neighborhood thanks to the project carried out in collaboration with AMAT. Important redevelopment interventions are planned, including the construction of a new library, cycle connections, the transformation of Via dei Giacinti into a pedestrian area with new trees, benches and a playstreet that will offer play spaces for the little ones. At the same time, the pedestrian space in Largo Fatima will be enhanced together with the installation of a gate which will increase safety by decreasing the speed of vehicular traffic.

"We have been investing in Giambellino for some time – declares Pierfrancesco Maran, councilor for Housing and Neighborhood Plan –. However, we did not want to limit ourselves to a demolition and reconstruction intervention due to Via dei Gaggioli but we decided to improve the public space for the entire neighborhood by intervening on the areas adjacent to the properties. Thanks to the works we will significantly increase the space for pedestrians, the presence of greenery and we will create new recreational areas for the little ones".

"The financing will allow the construction of buildings aligned to the highest standards available today – explains Corrado Bina, Director of the MM SpA Home Division –. These will be highly energy efficient buildings which will constitute an example of how public residential construction can be achieved by combining construction speed and high quality of living".

"The project of the new houses in via dei Giaggioli is another important piece in the overall redevelopment of the Giambellino district – declares Santo Minniti, President of Municipality 6 –. The new services, from the subway 4 to the new library, the redevelopment of public spaces, from streets to the green system, they are redesigning the neighborhood making it more attractive for the city and more beautiful and functional for those who live there".
