Palazzo Marino. The initiatives for the 175th anniversary of the Five Days of Milan

On March 18th at 10 am the celebrations in the square will begin Five days with the civil and military authorities - Events for the Five Days of Milan

Milan, March 16 2023 – From 18 to 22 March Milan will celebrate the 175th anniversary of the historic Five Days which saw the Milanese population, oppressed by Austrian domination, rise up with weapons against the troops commanded by Marshal Radetzky. The city's provisional government and freedom lasted only a few months. In August of the same year the Austrians retook Milan, but the courage and valiant sacrifice of many men and women was neither in vain nor forgotten. The Five Days of Milan were the prelude to the Risorgimento uprisings and the Wars of Independence which led to the definitive liberation of the city and the union of the territories of Lombardy-Veneto with the Kingdom of Italy.

The celebrations of the 175th anniversary will begin on Saturday 18 March at 10 am, in Piazza Cinque Giondi, in the presence of the civil and military authorities with the laying of laurel wreaths and the performance of silence in memory of the fallen.

The deputy mayor of Milan, Anna Scavuzzo, will deliver the "First tricolor" into the hands of the students of the Teullié Military School who will keep it for all five days and will return it on Saturday 25 March on the occasion of their oath at the Arch of Peace.

From Saturday 18 March to Wednesday 22, thanks to numerous cultural initiatives, it will be possible to relive the spirit that moved those unforgettable days: the Tricolor will fly from the top of the main spire of the Cathedral next to the Madonnina and there will be events, guided tours and walks historical buildings among the city monument.
