Milan, November 22 2022 – From 1 to 11 December the Municipality of Milan together with Edison brings to the whole city the opera that inaugurates the 2022/2023 season of the Teatro alla Scala, Boris Godunov by Modest Petrovič Mussorgsky, directed by Kasper Holten.

First widespread edition 2022 accompanies the week preceding the Prima della Scala with over 60 events including listening guides, concerts, performances, exhibitions and reviews, conferences and free meetings, involving theatres, institutions, places of culture, city spaces and non-public venues. conventional.

The heart of the initiative is, as always, 7 December, the day on which the premiere takes place on the stage of the Teatro alla Scala: thanks to Prima diffused, the live broadcast of the event will be screened in 32 locations in the nine municipalities and in three spaces in the Metropolitan area.

"Prima diffusia returns to accompany the city towards one of the most important events on the city's national and international cultural calendar – states the Councilor for Culture Tommaso Sacchi –. A great emotion that this year is renewed for the eleventh time. As always , it is the alliance between the institutions and partners that makes it possible. Municipality, Teatro alla Scala, Edison and RAI constitute a now consolidated team, united in the common intention of making the Prima della Scala an event shared as much as possible by the Milanese, both thanks to the involvement in many widespread initiatives, which allow everyone to enter into the spirit of the opera; and thanks to the live broadcasts which create an extraordinary and exciting sharing between the community and the audience of the Teatro alla Scala on the evening of 7 December , it would not be possible without the collaboration of the Municipalities and many institutions and citizen bodies - from theaters to prisons, from libraries to museums, from airports to reception centers - which provide spaces and organization to participate in this great music festival , which is part of Milan's identity".

There will be 10.000 seats available in the 35 screening venues, confirming Prima diffusia a major cultural inclusion project in the area and in places where culture often struggles to reach, such as shelters and prisons. This year the big screen also returns to the Octagon, suspended in previous editions due to the pandemic, which brings the event back to its original structure.

The screenings on 7 December, starting at 18pm at the same time as the Teatro alla Scala, are made possible by the collaboration with Teatro alla Scala and Rai, which takes care of the filming and broadcast live on Rai 1 and via satellite.

Among the many places where it will be possible to attend the premiere, the Milano Opera Prison Theater, the Puntozero Beccaria Theater at the Cesare Beccaria Penal Institute for Juveniles and the San Vittore Prison; but also the 'Enzo Jannacci' Reception House, the Virgilio high school, the Oklahoma home for unaccompanied minors, the Baggio library, Medicinema at the Niguarda Hospital and, again, Malpensa Airport, the MUDEC, Wow space comics, Made in Corvetto, Mare Culturale Urbano, the Carcano Theater, the Roberto De Silva Civic Theater of Rho.

In some locations the screenings will be preceded at 16pm by a listening guide by the Accademia Teatro alla Scala: through accessible and engaging language, specialized musicologists and narrators will help the public to know and understand Mussorgsky's work.

On Thursday 1 December at 18pm the Sala della Balla of the Castello Sforzesco will host the inaugural event of Prima diffuse 2022, with the musicologist Fabio Sartorelli who will illustrate the plot and characters of Boris Godunov and, thanks to the musical interpretation entrusted to the students of the Academy Teatro alla Scala, will guide the audience to understand the historical, social and cultural context of the period in which Mussorgsky composed the opera.

Many in-depth meetings are scheduled.

It starts on November 30th (preview) and December 1st at 21pm at the Spazio Teatro No'hma Teresa Pomodoro with two evenings of entertainment, music and literature, with guests and performances.

And then again on 2 December with meetings at the Liceo Virgilio, at the Sormani Library, at Magazzino Musica MaMu, at the Rho Civic Theatre.

On the weekend of 3 and 4 December, the Edi/Barrio's Theater and BASE Milano are organizing workshops and special activities dedicated to children.

It continues on 5 and 6 December with appointments at the PACTA dei Teatri, at the OttavaNota Auditorium, at Medicinema, at the Porta di Milano – Malpensa Airport Terminal 1, at the Edi/Barrio's Theater and at the 'Giuseppe Verdi' Conservatory in Milan.

The Prima program also includes some exhibitions: from 1 to 7 December at the 'Giuseppe Verdi' Conservatory of Music "Verso L'ur-Boris", a small documentary exhibition on Mussorgsky, the Group of Five and, naturally, Boris Godunov; from 3 December to 8 January, Wow spazio comico exhibits the drawings of Nicola Genzianella, who created the comics version of three operas and will create six drawings dedicated to Boris Godunov.

Finally, from 6 to 11 December, Cineteca Milano MIC - Interactive Museum of Cinema offers the film festival "The Eyes of Power and Perfidia", which takes the public back to the splendor of the era of the Tsars through films that have made the history of cinema.
