Flowerbeds, common good
Even the flowerbeds under the house can become a common good if there is a community that has an interest in taking care of them and seeing them flourish.

This is what happens in the heart of the "Mazzini" public housing district. Since 2019, thanks to the "VerdeMompiani" and "VerdePanigarola" collaboration agreements, the inhabitants of Via Mompiani and Via Panigarola, supported by Italia Nostra Onlus, have started planting and taking care of the flowerbeds under their homes.

After checking the progress of both Collaboration Agreements, the signatories
they expressed their desire to continue, uniting as a single group and bringing together new ones
signatories, extending the scope of action to "accesses" to via Mompiani from piazzale Gabriele Rosa.
The good will of the citizens was activated and supported by the "Lacittàintorno" program of the Cariplo Foundation which made the "Luoghicomuni" action available to the proponents of the Agreement and the Municipality until 31 March 2022. In particular, the project made the accompaniment of LABSUS available through monitoring and verification activities of the previous agreement and the signing of the new one. Furthermore, the technical and training support for the implementation of the interventions by Italia Nostra Onlus was confirmed, with the provision of: hours of operators, tools and transport vehicles, all the necessary plant material.

Objective of the pact

Take care of the flowerbeds by preparing the soil, planting flowers and plants and setting up protective fences for the new flowerbeds and creating neighborhood events in order to involve citizens in these activities.
Spreading good management practices for common spaces: a first step is the creation of a civic network for the shared care of the Corvetto neighbourhood, understood as a complex set of material common goods (streets, squares, green areas) and immaterial common goods (trust, memory historical, knowledge).

Looking ahead, the proponents of the Pact plan to open the collaboration to further interested parties, such as street traders of the weekly market and ALER, to bring public and open spaces into a greater relationship with private ones, such as the internal courtyards of ERP blocks , which could be made accessible and made available to the entire community, thus promoting aggregation between the inhabitants of public housing and other citizens of the neighborhood.
