Participation. VerdePanigarola, the collaboration agreement in the Corvetto district, is underway

Milan 20 December 2019 – The collective signing of the VerdePanigarola collaboration agreement for the care of green spaces and neighborhood relations takes place today, during the 'Auguri, Corvetto!' exhibition-festival at MadeInCorvetto. Thus, with new protagonists, what has already been started for the rebirth of via Mompiani, in the heart of the Mazzini district, continues.

“Another important collaboration agreement, which adds to the many already signed by the municipal administration – comments Councilor for Participation Lorenzo Lipparini –. The citizens of Milan are proving to be increasingly attentive and aware of the difference that each of us can make to make our neighborhood more beautiful and welcoming. In fact, more and more citizens or associations are proposing forms of collaboration to the Municipality to give life to shared administration and care of our city".

The proposal to the Municipality of Milan for a collaboration pact is the result of the meeting between the Luoghicomuni action, promoted by Labsus and Italia Nostra Nord Milano within the “Lacittàintorno” urban regeneration program of Fondazione Cariplo, and the activities of the Laboratory of Quartiere Mazzini with the Corvetto Network. On the one hand, Lacittàintorno has internally promoted an area of activity specifically dedicated to the promotion of common goods; on the other hand, the Social Custody service and the Mazzini District Laboratory, which over the years have become a point of reference for the territory, have long been committed to addressing the critical issues present in the courtyards and public spaces adjacent to public residential housing units, promoting shared solutions.

The collaboration agreement, signed by 8 inhabitants of the street, a shoemaker, two concierges and the Municipality of Milan, envisages that active Ukrainian, Ivorian and Italian citizens come together to regenerate and take care of the flowerbeds as common goods. The objective of the Pact is the dissemination of good management practices for common spaces, in particular through the restoration and shared care of the flower beds in Via dei Panigarola, in the heart of the Mazzini public housing district. In the first months of 2020, two new trees will also arrive at numbers 5 and 8 of via dei Panigarola, thanks to the open dialogue with the Social, Urban Planning and Green Policies Department of Municipality 4.

Looking ahead, the proponents of the Pact plan to open the collaboration to further interested parties, such as street traders at the weekly market and Aler, to bring public and open spaces into a greater relationship with private ones. On 12 July 2018 the first of a series of discussions and planning meetings on collaboration agreements began in Cascina Nosedo. In addition to the “VerdeMompiani”, “Azzaip!” and "VerdePanigarola" in Corvetto, another 3 pacts are being prepared together with primary schools and communities of families, children and teachers, and a network of subjects interested in the valorisation of Piazzale Ferrara. The Chiaravalle actors are instead developing a "framework pact" supporting it with an unprecedented artistic activity, with an initial focus on the main square. In Corvetto and Chiaravalle, with the support of Luoghicomuni, various actors and active citizens presented two proposals for the public notice "Open Squares in every neighborhood".

At the same time, the “Real Giardino” pact was signed several months ago in the Adriano district, which involves the Ass. Viviadriano, some individual citizens, the Casa della Carità Foundation and the Friends of Casa della Carità Association. In Adriano we are working with different subjects - schools, theater companies, social cooperatives, cultural associations and individual inhabitants - on the development of other collaboration agreements, starting with Piazza Costantino, the "entrance door" to the neighbourhood, which unites via Padova with via Adriano.
