Butterfly millet

Butterfly millet

On Earth Day, 22 April 2021, the Butterfly Mile pact was signed for the care and regeneration of the flowerbeds of Corso Lodi.

Thanks to the presence of the landscape architects of Italia Nostra ONLUS, the support of Labsus (Cariplo Foundation) and the collaboration of two agronomists from the Brera Artistic High School (responsible for the Guarda Mi citizen science project), citizens, associations and traders planted the flowerbeds of Corso Lodi with essences of dog rose, hawthorn, lavender, apple tree and rosemary and other floral species that attract butterflies and pollinating insects. The objective of the pact, in fact, is not only to make Corso Lodi more colourful, but also to make citizens aware of the world of butterflies, their life, their importance as an "umbrella" species and environmental indicators.

The Butterfly Pact will last until 2024 and will require constant commitment from everyone. In particular, participants will have to contribute to the maintenance and care of the regenerated flowerbeds on Corso Lodi, between Via Tagliamento and Piazzale Corvetto. They will have to attend periodic training sessions on landscaping care and monitoring by Italia Nostra ONLUS. They will have to raise awareness among other inhabitants of the value of spaces and common goods by collecting new proposals from them. Finally, they will have to collaborate in the monitoring activities of butterflies and pollinating insects, interacting with the GuardaMI platform curated by two doctors in Natural Sciences, teachers of the Brera Art School. Everyone will be asked to help involve other citizens in the shared care and cleaning of Corso Lodi.

Children also signed the agreement between the Administration for the first time, excited to soon be able to see many butterflies flying in the flowerbeds.
