Milan, 22 April 2021 – They began early in the morning to prepare the soil of the flowerbeds along the Corso Lodi cycle/pedestrian path and in the following hours they filled them with seedlings of essences of dog rose, hawthorn, lavender, apple tree and rosemary and other floral species that attract butterflies and pollinating insects . Then at 16 pm they gathered to sign the so-called Butterfly Pact.

On Earth Day (#earthday2021) the Corvetto neighborhood signed its "Collaboration Pact" with the Municipality and created the first Butterfly Mile in Milan. Also signing the agreement between the Administration and the citizens, residents and traders of the neighborhood were a little girl and a boy aged 4 and 7, enthusiastic about soon seeing many colorful butterflies flying in the newly created flowerbeds.

The Pact was concretely implemented thanks to the presence of the landscape architects of Italia Nostra ONLUS, the support of Labsus (Cariplo Foundation) and the collaboration of two agronomists from the Brera Art School (responsible for the Citizen Science project) and of many traders who have adopted a long stretch of Corso Lodi, from Piazzale Corvetto to Via Tagliamento.

"The Corvetto neighborhood - said the councilor for Participation, Active Citizenship and Open Data, Lorenzo Lipparini - is enriched by a collaboration agreement whose protagonist is the greenery and the active citizens who conceived this beautification and care project for Corso Lodi Thanks go to the citizens, supporters and associations who have put their expertise at the service of bottom-up project ideas, which the Municipality accompanies and supports with an ever-widening network of entities involved in the care of common goods".

The Butterfly Pact will last until 2024 and will require constant commitment from everyone. In particular, participants will have to contribute to the maintenance and care of the regenerated flowerbeds on Corso Lodi, between Via Tagliamento and Piazzale Corvetto. They will have to attend periodic training sessions on landscaping care and monitoring by Italia Nostra ONLUS. They will have to raise awareness among other inhabitants of the value of spaces and common goods by collecting new proposals from them. Finally, they will have to collaborate in the monitoring activities of butterflies and pollinating insects, interacting with the GuardaMI platform curated by two doctors in Natural Sciences, teachers of the Brera Art School. Everyone will be asked to help involve other citizens in the shared care and cleaning of Corso Lodi.

The following have signed the Butterfly Pact: Besio stationery shop, Bonvini stationery shop, Punta la Luna bookshop for children and teenagers, Dove.ngo social promotion association, Milano Madein Corvetto (Bicycle Coalition, Terzo Passaggio, La Strada), Social street residents in Piazza San Luigi, Topipittori publishing house, The bicycle station, Watch me and dozens of neighborhood residents.
