Milan, 30 April 2020 - To encourage sharing mobility as an alternative for travel in the post-lockdown phase, the Administration has decided to allow the expansion of the fleets present in the urban area of free floating bicycles and electric scooters available to citizens. Shared bikes without a fixed stall will be able to go from 8 thousand to 16 thousand, while electric scooters will be able to increase from 2.250 to 6.000.
"In addition to the 'Open Roads' enhancement plan, we have decided to modify and improve the tenders for sharing micromobility and free floating bikes - declares Marco Granelli, Councilor for Mobility -. Our objective is to increase the offer of complementary and light mobility to facilitate distancing, increase safety without excessively impacting traffic and pollution. Now we are waiting for the companies that will present themselves to integrate the fleets already present in the city of bicycles and scooters".
From next week, the Municipality will begin to evaluate the applications of companies that had already participated in the previously published tenders but which had not been taken into consideration precisely because the maximum means limit was exceeded.
Furthermore, following the indications of the Ministry of Transport, electric scooters will be able to circulate throughout the municipal territory on roads with a speed limit of 50 km/h and on extra-urban roads on cycle paths, always maintaining a maximum speed of 25 km/h when circulating on the carriageway and of 6 km/h in pedestrian areas.
The Administration is also working with the various companies that manage the sharing vehicles to improve the safety of the vehicles and their constant sanitisation.
