Cremation following a funeral

Cremation following a funeral is authorized by the Civil Status Officer of the Municipality of Milan for deaths that occur in its territory.
At the same time as the cremation authorization is issued, the date of the operation is set and the relative of the deceased can choose the destination of the ashes.

Request

It is necessary to present:

  • expression of desire for cremation;
  • in the event of a demonstration expressed by eligible family members download the form;
  • certificate on plain paper from the necropsy doctor which excludes the suspicion of death due to a crime;
  • in the event of sudden or suspicious death reported to the Judicial Authority: authorization from the Judicial Authority containing specific indication that the corpse can be cremated

If the deceased person had a cardiac pacemaker or similar equipment:

since only certain types of pacemakers can be introduced into the ovens of the Lambrate Crematorium, it is necessary to have information relating to the type of power supply of the device:

  • declaration from the family member indicating their presence;
  • if the death occurred in hospital the hospital will indicate the type of nutrition. In the absence of specifications on the death certification forms, the device will have to be removed;
  • if the death occurred at home: pacemaker card showing the brand and type of the device to assess whether it is necessary to request its removal.

  • from Monday to Friday, from 8 to 30 for all services;
  • Saturdays and midweek holidays from 8 to 30 (entrance from via Rastrelli); 
  • Sunday from 8 to 30 for deaths in homes and deaths in nursing homes without a mortuary (entrance from via Rastrelli).
