Change of name or surname

To obtain the change of personal details:

  1. Submit the request to ask for authorization from the Prefect
  2. Send the email to have the summary of the application from the provisional prefectural decree posted on the municipal noticeboard
  3. Go to the counter to hand over the requested documentation.

The request is only permitted by Italian citizens 

Posting on the Praetorian Notice Board

  1. After receiving the provisional decree from the Prefect, apply the €16,00 revenue stamp (the revenue stamp is not required for changing ridiculous or shameful names and/or surnames),
  2. scan it together to the summary of the question 
  3. send everything by email to the Praetorian Notice Board at the following address albo.pretorio@comune.milano.it

Also indicate your telephone number in the email.

After 30 days, the Praetorian Register Office will send your email the certification of publication, to be forwarded to the Prefecture that issued the provisional decree.


When you receive the final decree authorizing the transcription, you can present it together with a 16,00 Euro revenue stamp to:

opening hours: Monday to Friday from 8am to 30pm

  • To access the service it is mandatory to collect the call number (NA code) from the Civil Status Atrium Room (on the same floor)
  • Once the maximum number of tickets that can be issued during the time has been reached, free access may be limited.
