Biography

Marco Granelli was born in Milan and lives in Bruzzano District with his family. Since teenagehood, he has been involved in volunteering in his neighborhood. He carried out civil service with youth and disabled people, having chosen conscientious objection over military service. He then worked for Caritas Ambrosiana, first dealing with people suffering from AIDS and later with social policies and services alongside Father Angelo Bazzari and Father Virginio Colmegna. From XNUMX to XNUMX he was Councillor in his District Council, building up experience of political commitment. In XNUMX, with some friends, he founded the social cooperative Farsi Prossimo, then joined Federsolidarity and Confcooperative and later he became Chairman of the Social Cooperatives of Milan.

From 2006 to 2011 he was Chairman of CIESSEVI, a volunteering association for the provision of services and training. From 2016 to XNUMX he was Chairman of the Coordination of about seventy Service Centers for Volunteering (CSVnet) on the Italian territory. In XNUMX he fought for the defense of the law on volunteering and then against the abolition of the “XNUMXxXNUMX donation” in favour of non-profit associations. In XNUMX he was elected City Councillor in Milan, in the Ulivo list (left wing). He is among the founders of Partito Democratico (left wing) and has been a member of this Party since XNUMX. In XNUMX, after the elections, he was appointed Deputy Mayor for Security and Social Cohesion, Local Police Force, Civil Protection and Volunteering by the then-Mayor Giuliano Pisapia. Neighborhood guards, local police units devoted to street crimes, the doubling of cameras and the halving of street accidents are only some of the measures implemented to improve the city’s security. Measures have also been taken against degradation, especially in the suburbs and in disadvantaged areas.

Thanks to the opening of the Houses of Associations throughout the Milan area, voluntary work has been enhanced and fostered among citizens. Since 2021 to XNUMX, he was Deputy Mayor for Mobility and Environment. After the re-election in XNUMX, Mayor Sala appointed him Deputy Mayor for Public Security.
