Register of popular judges

The register of popular judges is the list of people qualified to hold the functions of popular judges at the Court of Assizes of first and second degree.
It is made up of the names of citizens, residents, who have submitted an application and those officially registered who are in possession of the requirements required by law.

I necessary requirements to register on the register are:

  • be Italian citizens of good moral conduct; 
  • enjoy civil and political rights;
  • be between thirty and sixty-five years of age;
  • be in possession of a first level middle school qualification for registration on the register of popular judges of the Court of Assizes (first degree) and a second degree middle school qualification for registration on the register of the popular judges of the Court of Assizes of Appeal (second degree).

Registration is automatically canceled due to loss of the requirements established by law.

Are excluded from the office of popular judge:

  • magistrates and, in general, officials in service activities belonging to or employed in the judicial system;
  • members of any police body, even if not dependent on the State, in service activities;
  • the ministers of any cult and the religious of every order and congregation.
