A holiday among the woods and lakes of the city

By bicycle from Boscoincittà to the Cave Park up to the Trenno Park

You can start from the MM1 S. Leonardo stop. From here you go along via Fichera up to via Cilea where you turn right, cross at the pedestrian crossing, take the dirt road and after the start of the asphalt take the first right. You pass a red metal barrier and take the dirt road: from now on you will no longer encounter cars. The agricultural fields around have regular geometries and wide horizons, the spectacle in April and May is enriched by the flooded rice fields. Continue westwards until the Olona diversion canal: at this point you are inside the Boscoincittà.

Proceeding north you come across the very young forest of oaks, hornbeams, hazels and more, planted a few years ago. It is advisable to also visit the wetland, recently created to create a new habitat of naturalistic interest in the park. A fence delimits the area of the Violè and Maiera urban gardens, built with the peculiar method envisaged by the tender: the gardeners also build the common areas in addition to dedicating themselves to their plot. Then you go back along the path that runs along the diversion canal in a southerly direction: in the background of the agricultural landscape there is the town of Trenno and, beyond the row of condominiums, you can glimpse the outline of the Meazza stadium. As an alternative to the sunny bank of the diverter, you can enter the woods and follow the path that follows the route of the dry Spinè and Giuscano fountains to reach the lake which, despite its appearance, is artificial and was dug in 1995. leaving an inaccessible island, spontaneously colonized by plants and animals.

South of the lake, take the cobbled road towards the east which leads past the beautiful and imposing Cascina San Romano, home of the CFU (Urban Forestry Centre). At the end of the road there are other vegetable gardens: if there are any of the gardeners at work it is worth having a chat to gather interesting stories about the area. At Cascina Belgiojoso you follow a path that leads to the "blue bridge", a cycle/pedestrian path on via Novara, which allows you to reach via Caldera until you pass alongside the farmhouse of the same name which is currently being restored and take the northern entrance of the Cave Park, known for its wealth of water and its vastness. Upon entering you encounter a first harmonious and evocative body of water equipped for parking, dominated in the background by a beautiful row of cypress poplars; behind, a triangular water basin symbol of ancient uses of these agricultural areas with rotting meadows.

Once you reach the entrance to the Quarto Cagnino park, continue further south. You can follow the main road arriving at the agricultural fields of Cascina Linterno with its ancient water meadows, or deviate to the right onto the nature trail that enters the bush, runs alongside the eighteenth-century "Tri Baselon" lock system and offers suggestive views of the Cava Casati. From both routes you reach the wetland, rich in hygrophilous flora and fauna and, after crossing it, you find yourself on the banks of the Cava Cabassi. Upon exiting onto Via Forze Armate, we recommend taking a look at the water basin, created to evoke such an important element in this park. Once the tour of the Cave Park has been completed, it is possible to reach the Bisceglie stop of the MM1 or return towards the "blue bridge", cross it again and, this time, continue on the cycle path towards the Trenno Park, which was created in 1971 on agricultural land and hosts an anachronistic oasis of order and serenity: the English cemetery created in 1945.

From the village of Trenno you can easily reach the MM1 Bonola or MM1 San Leonardo metro stop.
