Parco Sempione, a botanical garden in the center of Milan

A guide dedicated to shrubs, protagonists of the Park with their variety of shapes and colours.

Following the redevelopment and restoration works that the municipal administration designed and implemented with a substantial financial investment, the Sempione Park was repopulated with a great variety of shrubs which contributed greatly to restoring its ancient dignity as a botanical treasure. Precisely in respect of the historical tradition of the park, only shrub species already present in Milan in the nineteenth century were planted. Whoever crosses the park today encounters flowers, leaves, fruits with enchanting colors and shapes in all seasons of the year. The credit for this show goes largely to the shrubs.

This publication created in 2003 (downloadable from this page in PDF format) celebrates these gifts of nature and illustrates their botanical, ecological and chromatic characteristics as well as the inevitable curiosities. Among the more than 200 pages there is also space for a brief but exhaustive history of the Park, with the description of some buildings and monuments that inhabit it; a paragraph dedicated to the restoration project and a part that illustrates the history, organization and services of the very popular Park Library.
