Reoccupation of the columbarium for new deceased: what it is, how it works

The reoccupation of the artefact consists in burial of a new body in an already occupied columbarium.

The burial of the spouse, of the civilly united person, of relatives or in-laws may be requested, by the concessionaire of the artefact or, in the event of his death, by the spouse or civilly united person. In their absence, by all the closest relatives of the same degree and, in the absence of the latter, by all relatives of the same degree.

The deceased person to be buried in the columbarium must have the right to be buried in the cemeteries of Milan pursuant to art. 10 of Municipal regulation of funeral and cemetery services.

Reoccupation is permitted for the residual period of the original concession which must be more than twenty years; Re-occupation is not permitted for columbariums that have already been renewed.

The original deceased person must return to the reoccupied columbarium (art. 20 Municipal regulation of funeral and cemetery services): in the case of non-temporary transfer the concession will lapse.

In the case of a perpetual concession, the reoccupation of the building, single or grouped, determines the forfeiture of the perpetuity of all the buildings.
