Milansifastory

Milansifastory is a project, launched in 2014 and promoted by the Municipality of Milan and the "Milanosifastoria" network, aimed at relaunching culture and historical education in the Milan area.

The project was approved by the City Council and led to a Memorandum of Understanding between three Departments - Culture, Education and Employment Policies - and the subjects of the Network.

The Protocol was renewed and expanded in 2022 and now also sees the participation of the Departments of Sport, Tourism and Youth Policies and Civic and General Services.

Born from in-depth discussions with teachers and experts on the issues of the history of Milan and comparable areas, it has these objectives:

  • make citizens, students and visitors to the city reflect on our recent past;
  • raise awareness of history as a common good;
  • enhance the Administration's contribution to the activities that govern and guide the change, evolution and transformation of the city.

The tenth edition "History of Milan between memory, present and future", continues and deepens the 'glocal', multidimensional (environmental, demographic, economic, social, political and cultural) and interdisciplinary rereading of the history of the territory, the economy, the Milanese society and culture. The title evokes the complex interweavings between memory and historiography necessary to investigate the past, interpret the present and plan the future and to promote conscious historical education.

Alongside the consolidated projects (Cinema and History), formats (Le Milano di...) and thematic threads, this edition proposes some cycles of initiatives on themes linked to the 80th anniversary of the beginning of the Italian Resistance and the Italian Social Republic, to the 150th ° of the aggregation of the Municipality of Corpi Santi to the Municipality of Milan and the Centenary of the further aggregation of 11 other "neighbouring Municipalities".

The second year's initiatives open with the press conference held in Palazzo Marino (Brigida room), October 28th at 11:00.

The initiative will be an opportunity to renew the desire to continue with the Project, in the presence of the three promoting Councilors: Cappelli, del Corno and Tajani, and to illustrate the theme of work which is precisely the common thread of the year's activities - MILAN : The work, the history.

The inauguration of the second edition (5 November 2015 – October 2016) will take place in the Sala Alessi in the presence of the authorities on 5 November, with the illustration of the objectives of the year's perspective:

  • contribute to bringing work back into the cultural and political-social agendas
  • deepen the role of work in the Ambrosian welfare model and in the global and glocal dimension of Milan
  • enhance memories and interdisciplinary research on the history of work in Milan and other comparable areas
  • build a bridge between the different pasts (pre-industrial, industrial and post-industrial), our present and the future, promoting professional, cultural and civil orientation, and dialogue between people of ages, generations, origins and genders.

The program of the week is extremely varied this year also due to the vitality and richness of the Network that supports it and the richness of the proposals: historiographical seminars, round tables, in, scenic stories etc.

The details are contained in the attached leaflet which is accompanied by a rich postcard containing some of the activities that were carried out before the official launch and some of those that we will carry out in 2016.

Among the many other activities of the week:

  • a historiographical introduction on the transformations of work and, to follow, the seminar What kind of work, promoted by the National Women's Union
  • seminar and round table on: the BOOK object, a profile of the industrial culture of Milan
  • lesson with guided tour of the painting The Fourth Estate by Pellizza da Volpedo, a symbol for Milan?
  • Cinema and work seminar: directors, critics and experts discuss the history and return of interest in work in the video production of fiction and documentaries
  • public reading: From the factory to the precariat: Milanese stories. Tiles for a historical mosaic

Therefore, in the opening week, 17 events were held (16 + the inauguration)
These events were also held in metropolitan locations. There are 38 collective promoters.

To complete the second edition, until autumn 2016, another 14 events were held, located in 10 locations, and promoted by 15 collective entities.

Initiatives beyond the opening week

The activities of the inaugural week were accompanied by the initiatives announced in the "postcard" (see msfs_ed2_cartolina.pdf, attached), among which we recall, in particular:

  • training seminars and workshops for secondary schools Cinema and History. The world of work since the Second World War at Società Umanitaria
  • series of meetings on female professions. What kind of work? at the National Women's Union

Also promotions and products organized outside the schedule, such as the booklet on the Rights of Children (now out of print), distributed free of charge on the occasion of the anniversary of 20 November (in 1989 the United Nations Assembly approved the International Convention on the Rights of Children and Adolescents) and the publication of the ACTS of the first year of activity with the presentation of which the year 2016/2017 will begin.

From the point of view of participation of schools are worth mentioning celebrations of history, opened by the Diaz School, continued with the IC Jacopo Barozzi and ended with the IC Marcello Candia and again with the IC Barozzi: the commonality of historical perspective and toponymic perspective can open, as achieved in the last two comprehensive institutes, a greater and diversified participation of students in whole schools; it is possible to speak of a competition of students close to 3000 units who actively participated in the project.
