Vaiano Valle Nord - Implementation plan

The scope of the intervention is located in the south-eastern quadrant of the city, within the Vigentino district. The entire territorial surface is identified within the provisions of the PGT of Milan as the mandatory Implementation Plan "PA1\c Vaiano Valle Nord".

The area extends for approximately 8 hectares, on free land, between Via Quaranta and Via Marco d'Agrate and is currently crossed and served by the public road system of Via dell'Assunta.

The area is located at the northern limit of the already urbanized fabric and constitutes the opportunity to define the new edges of the city with respect to the open territories of the Southern Agricultural Park of Milan through a unitary and conscious project.

In these terms, the planning and design action presents itself as an opportunity to redevelop the edge of the existing city by constituting a new "front", to establish new relationships with the Agricultural Park, to create a junction element between city and countryside through a vast green filter.

The project develops starting from the strong presence of three existing strategic elements: The Vettabbia canal; The street of the Assumption; The Cascina Molino della Valle.

These three elements define the three guidelines for the strategies linked to the naturalistic aspect of the area and its relationship with the Agricultural Park, to the main road system that structures the intervention, to the creation of a public nerve center with a highly evocative and contextualized.

A pedestrian and cycle path system is added to the road system defined by Via dell'Assunta which creates new connections both along the north-south route (city-park), connecting Via Quaranta with the network of existing or planned cycle paths within the agricultural park, both along the east-west transversal, contributing to the valorisation strategy underway for the public spaces of the Corvetto and Ripamonti areas.

The objective of the plan is to complete the built fabric in continuity with the context, systematising and completing the existing road system, adding public and green spaces, restoring a finished form at the edge of the countryside.
