EPIC

The EPIC project aims to contribute to local economic development in the Inle Lake area of Myanmar through the promotion of cultural and natural heritage and the sustainable use of natural and cultural resources.

Inle Lake is the second largest body of natural water in Myanmar and one of the country's major tourist destinations; although tourism development opens up important opportunities for economic growth, the benefits for the population remain limited and the risks for the ecosystem are growing rapidly.

The Municipality of Milan intervenes in the actions to strengthen the local Burmese institutions responsible for the management of the area and tourism development, transferring significant experiences in the field of land management and consultation with public and private entities.

The direct beneficiaries of the action are local communities, civil society organizations from 20 villages on Inle Lake, private tourism operators and local authorities.

The indirect beneficiaries are the citizens of the area of interest.

The main partners are:

  • ICEI - International Economic Cooperation Institute (leader),
