GREEN VALUE - Albania

VALORE GREEN is a City-to-City Cooperation project developed in Albania as part of the Italian-Albanian Debt Conversion Program (IADSA, Italian-Albanian Debt for Development Swap Agreement) aimed at supporting social and environmental development initiatives promoted by competent Albanian public institutions, jointly examined and approved within the framework of the broader Italian-Albanian Development Cooperation Programme.

The VALORE GREEN project, synergistic with further interventions underway in the urban and sub-urban territory of the Municipality of Vlora which involve the Municipality of Milan, Celim and the partners of the respective territorial systems, aims to support the Albanian city in the development of a model of efficient and sustainable municipal management of environmental services and the rehabilitation and conservation of natural areas present in the area.

Partnership:

  • Municipality of Vlora (leader),
  • The municipality of Milan,
  • CELIM onlus.

Technical partners:

  • AMSA/A2A,
  • ARPA Lombardy,
  • Politecnico di Milano,
  • Campo dei Fiori regional park,
  • Emmaus Albania.

The duration of the project is 30 months (start August 2020 - end January 2023).

The general objective is to support the sustainable development of the Municipality of Vlore, through the structuring of a solid urban waste management system, based on environmental responsibility and social inclusion.

The intervention was created in response to the absence of an adequate waste management service in the area (produced in ever-increasing quantities) and to significant rates of vulnerability and unemployment among the population.

  • Support for the development of an efficient and sustainable municipal management model of environmental services/waste management in the municipality of Vlora and in particular in the protected natural areas present in the territory (Soda Forest and Narta Lagoon),
  • Environmental recovery and maintenance intervention for natural areas,
  • Awareness campaigns for the conservation of natural areas.

  • Improvement of the municipal waste management service, based on the circular economy and job opportunities for the most vulnerable people,
  • Landscape protection of the Soda Pine Forest and the Narta Lagoon: disposal of bulky waste, elimination of illegal landfills and implementation of fire prevention measures,
  • Increased awareness of young people, citizens and tourists on environmental protection.
