Culture and nature for the development of Mozambique

The intervention, financed by the European Union - Mozambique Delegation (Europe Aid call No. 150577 DD/ACT/MZ), intends to promote the economic sustainability of the cultural industry and sustainable tourism of the Ibo District, strengthening civil society, youth employment and community participation in territorial management.
Specifically, the city of Milan will be involved in the exchange of know-how and training of local authorities' staff on territorial, tourist and cultural promotion, through the "Officials Without Borders" initiative. 

Direct beneficiaries: 30 officials of the Ibo District and the Quirimbas National Park (PNQ), 180 employees of 20 civil society associations in the sector of cultural and recreational promotion of the Ibo District, approximately 2.000 people including children and teachers of nine primary schools and approximately 5.000 people among the population reached by the information campaigns.

Indirect beneficiaries: residents of Ibo District (11.000 inhabitants).

The project started on December 1, 2016 and ended on March 31, 2021.
 

  • Strengthen skills and dialogue between civil society organizations and local administrations to enhance good governance, protect cultural heritage and improve the management of natural resources
  • Promote the economic sustainability of the cultural and sustainable tourism sector in Ibo district (Cape Delgado Province), strengthening civil society, youth employment and community participation in land management

• Training of the technical staff of the Local Authorities and environmental promotion. 
• Exchange of experiences with successful companies in tourism and cultural promotion.
• Creation of a network of formal and informal associations in the District. 
• Coordination of a platform of interested actors. 
• Creation of a participatory plan for the cultural and tourist valorization of Ibo
• Institutional participation in the forum, consultations and production of promotional tools/activities.
• Technical and management training in the area of ​​fundraising for CSOs.
• Financial support to civil society organizations through internal tenders and grants (art and communication competitions). 
• Works for the enhancement and recovery of cultural and natural heritage. 
• Creation of cultural and environmental itineraries and promotion of cultural events.
• Training program for young people and women in the tourism sector (tour guides, crafts, cooking).
• Consolidation of the Ibo Guides Association and strengthening of the training offer of the Technical School.
• Environmental and hygiene education campaigns also through the radio.
• Community meetings and training of community leaders.

1. Increase sectoral skills in territorial development and promotion and increase participation in consultation and dialogue spaces with local institutions (Ibo District Administration, Quirimbas Park) and civil society.
2. Improve the skills and professionalism of civil society associations and the cultural and tourist offer of Ibo.  
3. Increase in income for young people and women in the ecotourism and environmental conservation sector; increased and created new jobs.
4. Increased access and good governance of natural resources by the Ibo population.
