Genoa gate

The pedestrian areas of the square - between via Ventimiglia and via Barbavara - have increased from 1.200 to 4.100 square meters and have become more livable thanks to the installation of benches, racks and flower pots.

Thanks to the collaboration with "Retake Milano" and "Colorificio Sammarinese", the route from the exit of the M2 green metro stop to the BikeMi walkway has been colored with white and blue stripes, some of which indicate the different directions of the places of greatest interest in the neighborhood. The redevelopment did not lead to changes in traffic between via Vigevano, corso Colombo and via Valenza, private vehicles were prohibited from passing through the square, the taxi stop was moved outside the pedestrian area, while the stop was redeveloped of the tram line n. 2 and bus no. 74.

Enhance squares by making them meeting points at the center of neighborhoods, improve public space, expand pedestrian and usable areas and promote sustainable forms of mobility that benefit the environment and the quality of life in the city.

The intervention "Genoa gate" is part of the "Open squares" project, aimed at pursuing the sustainability and urban regeneration objectives of Milan 2030.

After Piazza Dergano and Piazza Angilberto, the 6 April 2019 the Porta Genova square was inaugurated.

From a chaotic place of passage (M2 green metro station), the square has become a rest area, an "urban break" a few steps from one of the places of the so-called "nightlife" par excellence and in the heart of the historic district of Design week".
