RE-SKIN - Renewable and Environmental-Sustainable Kit for building Integration

Project
The RE-SKIN project aims to develop an integrated and multifunctional system for the energy retrofit of existing buildings, according to a circular economy logic, mainly using recycled/bio-based/reused/reconditioned materials in order to maximize energy performance while reducing impacts environmental. The system can be applied throughout Europe and provides renewable energy in both summer and winter.
The innovative materials (which will be entirely provided by the project partners) will be installed in pilot buildings indicated by the participating cities. Similarly, the Municipality of Milan will test charging stations for electric vehicles which will be installed near the building subject to the interventions

Aims
• enable large-scale and cost-effective nZEB renovation in Europe, based on the principles of the circular economy while also taking care of the architectural value;
• promote total energy efficiency, optimizing the shares of embodied, operational and renewable energy;
• promote and exploit technologies that are energy efficient and at the same time respectful of the environment;
• maximize the energy performance of the building envelope, combining passive and active features in multifunctional packages;
• enhance the synergies between envelope technologies and technical systems, also enhancing the role of BEM and ICT technologies;
• strengthening the interactivity of Smart Grids;
• be fully compliant with the technical screening criteria of the EU Taxonomy to attract sustainable investments in the post-project phase;
• apply and test all categories of the product life cycle with a view to the circular economy;
• pursue system resilience by including features capable of coping with climate change and large disruptive events in the building's performance (climate change adaptation strategy).

Actions
Through participation in this project, the Municipality of Milan can confirm and implement, also on an international level, its commitment already consolidated at a national level for the development of policies to pursue and guarantee the energy efficiency of buildings through the use of materials highly innovative and recycled.
The participation of the Municipality of Milan is aimed at the creation of a pilot experiment which involves the energy requalification of a building it owns through the installation of highly innovative materials which will be supplied by the project's partner companies. In the same way, electric vehicle charging stations will be tested and installed near the building.

Expected results
• the decarbonisation of the building throughout its entire life cycle;
• strengthening the circular economy in building renovation;
• enable intelligent retrofit;
• improvement of insulation and air tightness;
• reduction in renovation times;
• cost-effective implementation of sustainable renovations and renovations in the building sector;
• improvement of the comfort and liveability of the building;
• support for circular standards and certification.
