Milan East Gate Hub

The project  Milan East Gate Hub - CEF Action n. 2019-IT-TM-0171-S involves the creation of:

  • extension of the M4 underground line from Linate to Segrate
  • new Segrate high-speed station.

The extension of the M4 line from Linate and the Segrate high-speed station is part of a supra-municipal planning aimed at the creation of Porta Stations ("Systems at the entrance to the Milan hub in which the stop of all transport products is planned , to allow every entry option into Milan - bypass, main stations, peripheral stations, underground - or coming from the node) which identifies among others, as a first level 'hub', "the new Segrate Porta Est Metropolitan Hub", with the aim of connecting Milan-Linate airport with the regional railway system (SFR) and the long-distance eastern route, through the use of a connection with the Milan metropolitan line.

The strategic relevance of the project has led, starting from 2017, to stipulate three different agreements to co-finance the design (technical and economic feasibility project) of the extension of the M4 line and the HS station, to which the Region has joined, guaranteeing an economic contribution. Lombardy, the Metropolitan City, the Municipality of Milan, the Municipality of Segrate, the Municipality of Pioltello, SEA SpA (company that manages Milan-Linate airport), Westfield Milan SpA.

In July 2020, the project obtained European funding under the CEF Transport 2019 European call, called "Reflow Call", under the priority "Actions implementing transport infrastructure in nodes of the Core Network, including urban nodes", which allowed MM SpA on behalf of the Municipality of Milan, to develop a PFTE for an expense of approximately 2,5 million euros covered with the economic contribution of the partners and stakeholders listed above.

In 2022, with Ministerial Decree 97, the State allocated 420 million euros to cover the overall expense for the construction of the extension of the M4 Linate-Segrate line with a forecast of opening of the new section in 2030 (the Segrate High Speed Station will be financed directly by RFI).

The Technical Economic Feasibility Project of the M2022 Extension and the High Speed Station financed by the European tender was concluded in December 4 and the definitive design for the financing of which we are competing in a second tender and in partnership with RFI, Municipality of Segrate and Sea SpA, who in turn proposed projects connected to that of the 'Segrate Porta Est Hub'.
