Fit4Food2030

The project

FIT4FOOD2030 is part of the European FOOD2030 strategy, developing actions aimed at transforming research and innovation processes on food and nutritional safety, providing a network and tools useful for adopting an approach based on responsible research and innovation. The project actions aim, in fact, at the development and support of sustainable and inclusive, resilient, safe and diversified food systems, with the aim of promoting the relationship between the city of Milan and the world of scientific research in the agri-food field.

The consortium is made up of the following partners:

  • Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (Netherlands),
  •  Oslo and Akershus University College of Applied Science (Norway),
  •  Austrian Institute of Technology (Austria),
  • Fundacio Privada Institut de Recerca de La Sida-Caixa (Spain),
  • European Food Information Council (Belgium),
  • Association Europeenne des Expositions Scientifiques Techniques et Industrielles (Belgium),
  • Institut National de La Recherche Agronomique (France),
  • The Research Council Norway (Norway),
  • The Netherlands Organization for Health Research and Development (Netherlands),
  • Food Drink Europe (Belgium),
  • International Life Sciences Institute European Branch (Belgium),
  • Alma Mater Studiorum - University of Bologna,
  • Wageningen Research (Netherlands),
  • EIT Food (Belgium),
  • The municipality of Milan.

The University of Amsterdam will play the role of project leader.

The project aims to transform research and innovation processes on food and nutritional security, providing a network and tools useful for adopting an approach based on responsible research and innovation.

To this end, the “FIT4FOOD2030” project aims to establish the "FOOD2030 Platform" by developing three interconnected structures:

  1. construction of a group of experts ("European think tank") that serves as a direct link between the European Commission and the member and associated states;
  2. creation of “Policy Labs” to scale up and align public-private R&I policies and programs on food and nutrition security, building and expanding existing national and regional networks;
  3. establishment of "City Labs" to create and pilot action-oriented courses for students, consumers, researchers and professionals connecting research centers to cities in the Milan Urban Food Policy Pact network.

The Municipality of Milan has joined the project in question as a partner and will undertake to mainly carry out the following activities:

  • support for the creation and development of the City Lab, through the implementation of pilot projects intended to influence the local and trans-local agenda on the topic of nutrition;
  • collaboration with partners who will directly take care of creating the FOOD2030 platform;
  • support, through its own channels, in the communication, dissemination and future involvement actions envisaged by the project;
  • use of a monitoring and evaluation methodology that enhances "reflective learning", i.e. the exchange of knowledge and ideas between project partners;
  • support to the lead partner in project management activities.

The FIT4FOOD2030 project essentially aims at the development and implementation of a sustainable, balanced, multi-stakeholder and multi-level platform (Food2030) that will support the European Commission in the development and implementation of the FOOD2030 strategy and the related action plan.

To achieve this result, a European "Think tank" will be established which will connect the European Commission and the member states and "Policy Labs" will be established promoting the participation of local subjects and stakeholders in discussions on the European strategy, including organizations in the dialogue of civil society, consumers and citizens in order to develop new policies in the field of research and innovation.
