ELABORATOR - The European Living Lab On Designing Sustainable Urban Mobility Towards Climate Neutral Cities

Project
The project aims to identify suitable solutions to be implemented in urban areas using innovative planning, design and implementation approaches, including co-creation and/or citizen involvement, modeling and artificial intelligence, smart digital tools , the dynamic reallocation of spaces, with the aim of improving road safety, reducing air and noise pollution and ensuring greater protection for pedestrians and cyclists, promoting intermodal transport and encouraging the achievement of Vision Zero and emissions objectives zero.

objectives
Identify specific needs for mobility and redesign of public spaces, taking into account the actual and perceived safety of vulnerable users and accessibility for people with disabilities and intends to provide clear guidance to other cities, Member States and Associated Countries on how to systematically integrate the dimension of vulnerable road users into infrastructure planning, including aspects of safety and security, accessibility, digital and intelligent tools

Actions
The activities that will be implemented by the Municipality of Milan have the aim of improving the accessibility of the network of pedestrian itineraries connecting the Olympic sites and the main tourist attractions of the historic center and will include:
- the collection of data for the redesign of public spaces to encourage sustainable mobility approaches;
- the installation of sensors along routes and at pedestrian crossings in order to improve mobility for people with visual disabilities;
- participatory research interventions and involvement of vulnerable and excluded groups;
the participatory co-design of urban spaces with citizens

Expected results
Improving the accessibility of public spaces through the removal of existing architectural barriers and the implementation of innovative solutions that promote the accessibility of transport for people with motor, sensory and intellectual disabilities, for the elderly, for children and, in general, for all the inhabitants and users of the city
