CLEVER FOOD

Project
Currently, there is insufficient coordination, collaboration and mutual learning between EU projects, initiatives, food policies and ongoing dialogues at all levels of governance in Europe in relation to the necessary transformation of our food system, and there is huge potential to establish synergies between them to maximize their impact. The aim of CLEVERFOOD is to bring together all these existing projects. Many good initiatives are already underway in the EU, such as those aimed at reducing agricultural emissions and promoting biodiversity and health. However, they are fragmented and do not collaborate at all levels. Collaboration is at the heart of everything if we truly seek to implement change. In addition to cooperation, one of the project's main focus areas is legislation and advocacy, paving the way for common EU policies that support healthy and sustainable food systems. For example, the high debt-to-income ratios of all actors in the European food system prevent farmers and food innovators from adopting new technologies and practices necessary for the transition to a circular, low-carbon and more plant-based future. At the same time, information and educational awareness raising for EU citizens must expand public awareness about healthy and sustainable foods and thus increase consumer demand for plant-based foods.
