CAMPAIGNers - Citizens Acting on Mitigation Pathways through Active Implementation of a Goalsetting Network

Project
To develop political action plans both in European Union countries and in non-EU areas, specific, realistic and concrete paths are needed that push towards the achievement of zero-carbon lifestyles.
The CAMPAIGNers project will provide achievable pathways for lifestyle change, supported by an unprecedented level of empirical research, to be used as a framework for both the interventions envisaged in the project and for general assessments based on change mitigation models climate at national, European and global levels.

Aims

  • Define target lifestyles and scope
  • Obtain a range of good practices that can be replicated, from the analysis of case studies
  • Establish a lasting network of goals for an experiential lifestyle change
  • Assess the large-scale effects of lifestyle changes on the energy system, economy and climate
  • Support cities to start a process towards more sustainable lifestyles
  • Support the European Union's long-term strategy for reducing greenhouse gases at all levels

Actions
CAMPAIGNers' innovative approach includes the implementation of a 'goal-setting' network, where citizens receive and create challenges to make specific changes to their lifestyle through an application platform. Their responses to these objectives will provide unprecedented data on their behavioral processes, which can be used to inform policy and motivate citizens to reconsider their lifestyles. 16 cities on 5 continents with more than 15 million residents will actively promote participation in the network.

Expected results
Together with scientists and international NGO networks, cities will develop policies to support citizens' lifestyle transformations in the short and long term.
Interactions with policy makers at all levels will promote the derivation of policy-ready recommendations for local, national, European and global strategies. A workshop in the European Parliament will ensure high-level feedback and contribute to consensus building.
