Maintenance and monitoring of railway overpasses

WORK AND CHECKS ON THE OVERVIEWS OF THE ITALIAN RAILWAY NETWORK AND MUNICIPAL PROPERTY

For the Municipality of Milan and RFI (Italian Railway Network), it is of primary interest to guarantee the safety of the infrastructure, ensure vehicular and pedestrian transit on the bridges and railway operations.
A technical table was started last June 2018 between the Italian Railway Network and the Municipality of Milan to define a collaboration agreement for the redevelopment of all railway bridges and underpasses.
In the Municipality of Milan there are 495 bridges of which 90 are the exclusive responsibility of RFI.
All structures are subject to constant monitoring by specialized personnel aimed at drawing up a progressive plan of ordinary and extraordinary maintenance.
To manage any unforeseen situations, both the Municipal Administration and the Railway Company are equipped with operational tools to guarantee emergency assistance 24 hours a day.

In 2019 alone Multiple interventions have been carried out to safeguard and improve the railway heritage:

  • Viale Monza railway bridge
  • paving underpass Villapizzone
  • consolidation of the Viale Fulvio Testi railway bridge
  • consolidation of the Viale Sarca railway bridge

and municipal heritage:

  • Footbridge via Mosca
  • Campanella underpass
  • Porta Nuova underpass
  • Footbridge via Imperia
  • Replacement of expansion joints on all structures
  • Walkway Via Agordat
  • Via Licata vehicle bridge
  • Via Marotta Vehicle Bridge
  • Vehicle bridge via Feltre
  • Walkway via De Marchi
  • Monte Ceneri Serra Bridge
  • Prospero Finzi Bridge
  • Replacement of brick coverings on railway bridges of Ferrovie Nord (FNME) of the quadrupling Cadorna Bovisa

In 2020 two important works have been planned on the railway bridge in Via Imbeciles and on the street vehicle bridge Farini.

The consolidation works of Via Farini vehicle bridge have been finished.
On 5 September the via Farini bridge was reopened as scheduled and vehicular traffic resumed normally. The restoration work on the structural part of the bridge involved the complete reconstruction of the tram tracks, paving and sidewalks.

in via Fools,  from March 16th, funtil December 11, 2020, work is carried out to maintain the load-bearing structures of the railway bridge efficient and allow the restoration of the architectural parts. The road has been completely reopened for vehicular traffic. Only the cycle path was interrupted.
